I am not a fan of him, nor a critic of him. So I guess I am not biased.
Pawan Kalyan was introduced in the movies when Chiranjeevi was the undisputed king of the Telugu Cinema. Of course, he had many flops at that time, but still he was on top of his game. People saw him as a natural successor.
I don’t remember the venue and function, but “Pawan” is a title given to him for his mastery in Marshal Arts. Pawan Kalyan has perfomed some real life stunts in the movies which was first of its kind in Telugu Cinema.
Even though, his earlier movies were flop in terms of story, his fight sequences were appreciated.
One major thing was, HE NEVER TRIED TO COPY CHIRANJEEVI STYLE. So he was seen as owning his own style.
“Thamudu” movie is revelation for him. His role as careless youth, commenting and teasing lectures resembled common youth of AP, youth looked themselves in that role. In the second half, he taking revenge against his brother’s enemy showing heroism. That plot overall as Common youth + Heriosm has attracted youth, made them crazy. Its was first of its kind in Telugu Cinema
Had he done similar plots subsequently, he would have disappeared. But the subsequent movies Badri and Kushi were all about style, ego, grace, domination, I dont care mentality. Again all these elements are typically seen in any youth. And youth again could look him as an ICON to be…
Especially, a remake movie like Kushi with absolutely no story, but he looked so stylish, it made its original Tamil Kushi movie as a crap (at least to me)
His fights were different. We were seeing fights from Chiranjeevi or Balakrishna were like screaming, jumping over, madly hitting with big Dishum dishum in the background. Pawan Kalyan’s fights in Badri and Kushi were stylish, calm punches here and there and that’s it! Again such type of fights were first of its kind in Telugu Cinema.
He rarely attends the public functions which again gives a sense of excitement to his fans to see him every time.
He had many flops later because his fights are no more new, as other young heros were following the same and his movies were less stylish. However, his craze was always maintained.
I don’t know the reality but media and fans looked him as someone very bold and straight forward. Especially the way he countered Mohan Babu boldy in 2007 supporting Chiranjeevi. When he went against to his brother, people thought it was again boldness, and ironically it happened when Chiranjeevi’s stupidity in politics was at its peak. And then followed by his own party and they way he criticized all parties openly, people again thought he was bold.
His way of working is either express openly with bang or go into shell with lot of secrecy. Somehow this is working well currently.
Well time will prove us, how bold he really is, but all these events in politics has earned him great following.
